A Warm Welcome to the UCSD Casual Golf Club website. The UCSD Casual Golf Club is an SCGA-sanctioned organization dedicated to monthly competition, camaraderie and enjoyment of the game by members of the extended UCSD golf community. Founded in 1973, membership consists of University of California San Diego (UCSD) faculty, staff, student, alumni, retirees, spouses, family, friends and affiliates. The term “Casual” in our name distinguishes us as an independent organization not officially affiliated or sanctioned by the university.
A wide range of skill levels are represented. Member handicaps range from the low single digits to 30-plus. We play 16 tournaments annually. Twelve of them are on one Saturday per month, and the other four are on one Wednesday in each of the months June through September. “ Click here” for the complete schedule for this year. Prizes are awarded for low gross, low net, low putts, long drive and closest to the pin. We also compete for annual honors such as Player of the Year (low net) and Club Champion (low gross), a direct gateway for eligibility to compete in the annual SCGA Tournament of Club Champions.
Membership is renewed on an annual basis. Participation in individual tournaments is handled on a monthly basis. Golfers sign up prior to the monthly deadline for that event. Subject to availability, members can elect to play every month or in only a few events. There is no minimum level of participation. However, to qualify for the Club’s annual honors, a member must compete in at least three tournaments and play in the year-end championship. Click on the Membership tab for information on eligibility and how to join our Club.
